How to Find and Review the SOLIDWORKS SolidNetWork License Manager Log File

The SOLIDWORKS SolidNetWork License Manager log file is a valuable troubleshooting resource for network licensing issues. The log records license server activity, including:

      • License server startup and shutdown events
      • License checkout and return activity
      • License availability and usage information
      • Client connection attempts
      • License errors and FLEXnet licensing messages

Reviewing this log can help identify issues such as a computer failing to obtain a license, communication problems between a client and server, or situation here all licenses are currently in use.

There are two common methods to access the SolidNetWork License Manager log:

      • Directly through the SolidNetWork License Manager application
      • Accessing the log file itself from the server.

Log Access 1: Access the Log from the SolidNetWork License Manager

  1. Open the SolidNetWork License Manager Server program from the Windows Start Menu.

Log Access 2: Obtain the Log File Directly

To access the log file directly, you must have access to the computer hosting the SolidNetWork License Manager service.

  1. Log in to the license server computer.
  2. Open File Explorer and navigate to the SolidNetWork License Manager installation directory. By default, this is:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SolidNetWork License Manager

Note: If the SolidNetWork License Manager was installed to a custom location, browse to that installation directory instead.

  3. Locate the Imgrd.log file.
  4. Open the file using a text editor such as Notepad.
  5. You can now review the log for historical license activity, error messages, and communication issues between clients and the license server. You can also provide this file to MLC CAD Systems technical support for review.

Additional Tips

      • The log file can be copied and shared with technical support while the license server remains running.
      • When submitting a log file for troubleshooting, include the approximate date and time when the issue occurred, so the relevant events can be located quickly.
      • If the log does not show recent activity, verify that the SolidNetWork License Manager service is currently running and that the current log file is being reviewed.
      • Some administrators find third-party tools such as OpenLM Parser helpful for converting FLEXnet and license manager log files into easier-to-read reports and usage summaries. Note: OpenLM Parser is a third-party product and is not affiliated with, sold, or supported by SOLIDWORKS or MLC CAD Systems.
