SOLIDWORKS Performance Evaluation tool can generate a report that examines a part for performance issues and lists rebuild times for features, including how many features, solids, and surfaces exist. You can use this report to determine which elements take longer to rebuild, and then take action to improve the part’s performance.

Part Performance Evaluation

In a Part file, click Performance Evaluation from the Evaluate tab of the CommandManager or from Tools > Evaluate > Performance Evaluation. SOLIDWORKS will rebuild the file and then display a performance report of the associated feature times.

The top of the dialog displays the total rebuild time along with the number of Features, Solids, and Surfaces in the model. Features are then organized based on their individual rebuild time, which also breaks down the percentage of load time it takes for the overall file. There are also buttons to Print, Copy (paste into Excel), or Refresh the information.

With this rebuild information, you can identify which specific features within a part or assembly file are taking the longest time to load. The example below shows that three features represent nearly 50% of the rebuild time; VENT CUTOUT, TEXT CUTOUT, MLC LOGO INDENT. These are three main features of the design which cannot be removed, though we may consider suppressing these features in a simplified configuration while working on modifying other features with improved rebuild times.

Once you have identified features that are the longest to rebuild, you can use various techniques to try and reduce those times. 


    • Review external relations and references within sketches and features to reduce load/rebuild time. 
    • Reducing the number of parents a feature has can reduce the time necessary to generate a feature. 
    • Use mirror and pattern features instead of multiple instances of individual features.
