How to Find Duplicate Files in PDM using Report Generator
(For SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional ONLY)
If your PDM Professional vault has or has ever had the duplicate file name settings configured to ‘Allow duplicate file names in this file vault’, and now your vault no longer allows duplicates, then you may run into errors when checking files in that already match an existing file name. This guide will help you find duplicates for all files or only for specific file names in a PDM vault using the PDM Report Generator included in SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional only.
Before we begin, you will need to download the two (.crp) report files below to be used in the report generator. The (.crp) files are Microsoft SQL query formatted for the report generator.
To access the Report Generator, from any PDM client local vault view, select Tools > Report Generator.
Note: To import or remove queries from the report generator, the logged in PDM user must have PDM administrative permission ‘Can update report queries.’ Once the query has been imported once, all other users will be able to access and run the query.
In the Report Generator, select File > Import Query… and then browse to the downloaded (.crp) files.
Select one or both files to import. A user rights/permissions dialog will appear for each imported query. Select the groups and/or users to grant permissions to run the query. Click OK to close the dialog.
Select the desired vault from the dropdown list and then checkmark the query to run. When you’re ready, click the ‘Execute Query’ button or select Edit > Execute Query to run the query.
Running query ‘List Duplicate Files for ALL File Names’ will display all duplicate files in the vault along with their file path and if they are in the deleted items or not. Deleted files can be found in the Properties > Deleted Items tab of the folder listed in the Path field.
Running the query ‘List Duplicate Files for Specific File Name’ will first display a dialog to enter the file’s name with the file extension and then a list of duplicates will populate in the results along with the path, current state, latest version, and document ID.
