How to Install eDrawings
eDrawings is a lightweight application that allows you to view 2D and 3D files without a license of SOLIDWORKS. For SOLIDWORKS customers, installing eDrawings is made easy by using the SOLIDWORKS installation manager. Even if you are installing eDrawings only as a viewer application without SOLIDWORKS, you can still use the SOLIDWORKS installation manager to install eDrawings.
This guide will detail how to install eDrawings only as well as how to add eDrawings to a computer with SOLIDWORKS installed.
Note, eDrawings free viewer can also be installed from this site, though you will need to provide email address and work through a registration process to complete the installation. For SOLIDWORKS customers, we recommend using the SOLIDWORKS installation manager as described in this article to install eDrawings.
Installing eDrawings Only
This process installs the free eDrawings viewer only. If you require eDrawings Professional functionality, then you will need to proceed to the next section of this guide to install eDrawings along with SOLIDWORKS Professional or Premium, or purchase eDrawings Professional separately. Before you begin the installation, you will need to download the SOLIDWORKS installation manager for the version of eDrawings you require.
- Double-click the downloaded SolidWorksSetup.exe application file to unzip and launch the installation manager.
If you have already unzipped the installation files, then locate and launch setup.exe, which is the SOLIDWORKS installation manager.
- Select the option to ‘Install on this computer’ and then click Next.
- On the Serial Number screen, make sure all SOLIDWORKS serial numbers are blank and unchecked. When using the SOLIDWORKS Installation manager, eDrawings does not require a serial number or any registration steps. Click Next to proceed.
- Accept the message that only free products can be installed. eDrawings viewer is included in the free products.
- The Installation Manager will perform systems check and then display the Summary page of products you can select to install. Since SOLIDWORKS licenses were not entered or selected on the previous screen, only the free products listed will be available for installation. Select eDrawings and click Next.
- On the Summary screen, we recommend leaving the download and installation locations as default. Accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement and then click Install Now to install the eDrawings viewer on the computer.
- Once the installation is complete, click Finish. You can now launch eDrawings from the shortcut on your desktop. You can verify the eDrawings version by selecting Help > About eDrawings.
Adding eDrawings to your SOLIDWORKS Installation
eDrawings viewer is installed with SOLIDWORKS Standard. eDrawings Professional is installed with SOLIDWORKS Professional and Premium. You can compare the various versions of eDrawings here.
If eDrawings either was not installed automatically when SOLIDWORKS was installed or you chose not to install it initially, the instructions below will detail how to modify the SOLIDWORKS installation to include eDrawings.
- Navigate to the Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Then scroll down to SOLIDWORKS <version> and select the ‘Change’ option to launch the SOLIDWORKS installation manager.
Note, if you only see an option to uninstall, then SOLIDWORKS was installed using an administrative image. Please contact your admin to have eDrawings added to the administrative image.
- In the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, select the option to ‘Modify your installation’ and then click Next.
- On the Serial Number screen, no changes are required. Click Next to proceed.
- On the Product Selection screen, select eDrawings and click Next.
- On the Summary screen, verify eDrawings is displayed under Products to Add and then Accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement. Lastly, click the Modify now
- Once the installation is complete, click Finish. You can launch eDrawings from the shortcut on your desktop. You can verify the eDrawings version by selecting Help > About eDrawings.
Note, if eDrawings professional was installed, then ‘Pro’ will display next to the eDrawings logo in the upper left corner if the application’s interface.
