How to Import a Package File with 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange Add-in

Using Export as Package in 3DEXPERIENCE, you can quickly add assembly files into a single package. The packaged file can then be shared with external collaborators outside of your 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Their changes can be tracked in the package and sent back and imported to review the modified files.

What is Included in the Package file?

The package file is saved with the extension ‘.sldpkg’ and contains everything needed to open the assembly which was packaged. This file can be opened using one of these methods:

    • SOLIDWORKS Connected (3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS)
    • Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS
    • SOLIDWORKS with the free ‘3DEXPERIENCE Exchange’ add-in

Using one of the products above, the package can be imported for editing by the external collaborator. They will only be able to edit the component and assembly files which were set to ‘For Edit’ when the package was exported. When they are satisfied with their changes, the collaborator will re-export the package file and send it back to the originator. When the package is returned and opened, it will display which files were modified.

How to Import a Package

1. Turn on the 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange add-in inside SOLIDWORKS (Tools > Add-ins).

Editing Files or a Package

With the package open, you can right-click and open any of the files from the 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange task pane. You can use the Refresh button to update the status of the files which have been modified.

When you are done editing the files, simply save the files which have been modified and the working folder will be updated.

Export the Updated Package File

On the 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange tab of the Task Pane, select Package > Export. Save the updated ‘.sldpkg’ file and either send it back to the originator or share the package with additional collaborating users.
