Configuring Managed DSLS Licensing

Overview

Managed DSLS (Dassault Systèmes Licensing Service) is a cloud-hosted licensing service. Unlike traditional methods, it is managed entirely by Dassault Systèmes, requires no local license server, and eliminates the need for a VPN when working remotely. If you have an internet connection, it is the preferred method and doesn’t cost additional. 

Prerequisites

      • Internet Connection: You must be connected to the internet (public or private network). 
      • Authentication File (.LIC): You should receive a .LIC file via email from DoNotReply.ag.license-keys@3ds.com or your account manager. 
      • Server Information: The Tenant ID or Online Instance ID string provided in the same licensing email. (eg. rxxxxxxxxxxx-usw1-licensing.3dexperience.3ds.com) 

Instructions

1. Deploy the Authentication File

  1. Locate the .LIC file you received. 
  2. Navigate to the following directory on the target computer: C:\ProgramData\DassaultSystemes\Licenses\ 
    • Note: ProgramData is a hidden folder. You may need to type C:\ProgramData manually into the file explorer address bar. 
    • If the Licenses folder does not exist, create it. 
  3. Copy and paste the .LIC file into this folder on every computer that plans to use Abaqus 

2. Create the Server Definition File

  1. In the same folder (C:\ProgramData\DassaultSystemes\Licenses\), create a new text file using a text editor (eg. Notepad) 
  2. Name the file: DSLicSrv.txt 
    • Caution: Ensure Windows does not hide the extension, resulting in DSLicSrv.txt.txt. 
  3. Open the file and paste the server line provided in your email. It will look similar to this (replace customerID with your specific ID): rcustomerID-usw1-licensing.3dexperience.3ds.com:443,rcustomerID-usw1-licensing-1.3dexperience.3ds.com:443,rcustomerID-usw1-licensing-2.3dexperience.3ds.com:443 
  4. Save and close the file. 

3. Application Configuration

New Installations: 

      • During the Abaqus/Simulation installation, select Skip Licensing Configuration when prompted. The files you placed in Steps 1 & 2 will handle the licensing automatically.

Existing Installations (Switching from FlexNet): If you are converting an existing installation from FlexNet to Managed DSLS, you must edit the configuration file to disable FlexNet. 

      • For Abaqus 2022 and newer: 
        1. Go to: C:\SIMULIA\EstProducts\<YEAR>\win_b64\SMA\site 
        2. Open EstablishedProductsConfig.ini. 
        3. Find the [EstablishedProducts] section and comment out the FlexNet lines by adding a #. Will look similar to below: 

          [EstablishedProducts] 
          # LICENSE_SERVER_TYPE=flex 
          # FLEX_LICENSE_CONFIG=port@server 

4. Verification

Launch Abaqus or your simulation tool. It should automatically detect the .LIC file and the DSLicSrv.txt server pointers
