How To Resolve 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Unable to Retrieve Install Data Error

This guide outlines the recommended steps for resolving the “Unable to Retrieve Install Data” error that can occasionally occur with SOLIDWORKS CONNECTED and other 3DEXPERIENCE applications.

Troubleshooting 1: Check for Antivirus Software

Before proceeding with the uninstall instructions later in this article, first verify whether any antivirus software is present on the system—particularly SentinelOne.

Antivirus programs, especially SentinelOne, are known to interfere with the functionality of Dassault Systèmes products and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. In many cases, SentinelOne blocks essential communication between the system and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, preventing SOLIDWORKS CONNECTED and Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS from launching properly.

To mitigate this:

  1. Contact your IT department and request that firewall exceptions be added for the following paths and or applications:
    C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp
    C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\3DEXPERIENCE Launcher

    3DEXPERIENCELauncher.exe
    3DEXPERIENCELauncherGUI.exe
    3DEXPERIENCELauncherBackbone.exe
    3DEXPERIENCELauncherSysTray.exe
    DSYCommunicationHubLauncher.exe

  2. Ensure that the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is added to your list of trusted websites. Specifically, add:
*.3ds.com or https://*.3ds.com to the Trusted Sites zone in your internet settings.

  3. You may also request that SentinelOne be temporarily disabled from your computer to confirm whether it is the source of the behavior.

If the error persists after completing these steps, continue with the troubleshooting process outlined below.

Troubleshooting 2: Reinstall 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher

The 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher is a small desktop utility that enables communication between your local machine and the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, particularly for SOLIDWORKS Connected and other 3DEXPERIENCE applications. If the application is unable to receive the install data to verify the version, then it may need to be reinstalled to resolve the behavior.

  1. From the Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, locate the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher and select to Uninstall the application.

  1. Once 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher has been uninstalled, in Windows File Explorer, navigate to C:\ProgramData\DassaultSystemes\3DEXPERIENCELauncher and rename the folder to 3DEXPERIENCELauncher_OLD as shown below.

Note, ProgramData is a hidden folder by default. Select View > Show> Hidden items.

  1. Clear your web browser’s cache/cookies (aka clear the history). Alternatively, you can use an incognito or private browser tab to bypass existing browser cache.

  2. Log into your 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and click the blue compass in the upper left corner. Locate SOLIDWORKS app. The image below shows SOLIDWORKS Connected and Design with SOLIDWORKS (Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS).

Click the arrow next to the app to launch it.

  1. The system will recognize 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher is not installed locally and then prompt to Download 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher.

Once downloaded, double-click the 3DEXPERIENCELauncher.exe and follow the instructions to complete the installation.

Once 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher is installed, return to the web browser and click Continue to proceed.

  1. Launch SOLIDWORKS Connected or your other 3DEXPERIENCE app to test if the behavior is resolved.
