How to Perform a Clean Reinstall of SolidNetWork License manager (SNL)

Performing the following steps reinstalls a SolidNetWork License manager (SNL) “cleanly” and removes registry entries and files that are normally left behind after a standard uninstall.

This procedure can be useful when troubleshooting a problematic installation behavior and you want to make sure that there is no old or mismatched information causing the problem, or if you want to completely remove the license manager from a system.

If you are moving to a new server, follow our guide How to Move the SolidNetWork License manager.

Considerations

    • Only perform these steps after all clients have returned all borrowed product licenses. Otherwise, the license may become ‘stuck’ on the client, which requires additional technical support steps to resolve.
    • Prior to performing the clean uninstall process, verify you know the SOLIDWORKS serial numbers. Your company’s security admin can access SOLIDWORKS serial numbers at solidworks.com using the instructions in our guide MyProducts overview of functionality.
    • This procedure requires changes to the Windows Registry. Incorrect changes to the Window Registry can cause installed applications or Windows to fail. Use caution when making changes to the Windows Registry or have an IT professional make these changes for you.

  1. Rename these folders, if they still exist after step 4. A computer restart may be required to delete the folders:
        • C:\Program Files (x86)\SOLIDWORKS SolidNetWork License Manager
        • C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet

  1. If you are reinstalling SolidNetWork License manager on the same machine, then proceed to the next step. If you are not going to reinstall SolidNetWork License manager on this machine again, then remove all firewall port rules for 25734 and 25735.

  2. Install the SolidNetwork License Manager again.

  3. As long as the server’s hostname remains the same, there are no changes required to the client installations. If the server’s hostname changed during the reinstallation process, then each client will need to remove the old and add the new server name with the associated port in the SOLIDWORKS SolidNetwork License Manager client application > Server List

For multiple clients, IT professionals can push out the change to clients using the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager
