How to Install SOLIDWORKS Simulation Products

(SOLIDWORKS Design Desktop only)

This guide covers installing SOLIDWORKS Simulation products for standalone desktop installations. Note SOLIDWORKS Simulation is provided in several versions and may or may not include a SOLIDWORKS Simulation specific serial number depending on how it was ordered and provided to you. This guide will cover the various license scenarios.

General Serial Number/License Notes:

      • SOLIDWORKS Design Premium includes SOLIDWORKS Simulation in the same serial number. You will not enter a serial number for Simulation when installing.
      • SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional and Premium can be bundled with a SOLIDWORKS Design serial number so one serial number contains both licenses. You will not enter a serial number for Simulation when installing.
      • SOLIDWORKS Simulation can be issued as its own product specific serial number, including trial licenses. These numbers still require a core SOLIDWORKS Design serial number as SOLIDWORKS Simulation is an add-on product.
      • Simulation cannot be installed or run without a SOLIDWORKS Design serial number/license.
      • To locate your SOLIDWORKS Simulation serial numbers, your company admin with SOLIDWORKS ‘Security Admin’ role assigned can log into solidworks.com to determine if products are bundled or if a Simulation specific serial number has been issued.
      • For network licenses of SOLIDWORKS Simulation, see our tech guide How to Add or Remove Network Serial Numbers to add the serial number to the SNL then follow the instructions below to install Simulation on the client machines.

Simulation Installation Steps

Overview:

  1. Download and install or modify and existing SOLIDWORKS installation.
  2. Enter your product serial numbers.
  3. Select to include SOLIDWORKS Simulation products.
  4. Complete the install/modify process.
  5. Activate the SOLIDWORKS Simulation license.
  6. Turn on the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-in.

Step 1: Download or Modify SOLIDWORKS Design

If SOLIDWORKS Design is not installed, then download the SOLIDWORKS installation manager for the desired version and follow the standard installation instructions.

If SOLIDWORKS Design is already installed on the client, navigate to the Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and locate SOLIDWORKS in the list. Right-click and select Change to launch the SOLIDWORKS installation manager.

Step 2: Enter your SOLIDWORKS serial numbers

For SOLIDWORKS Simulation products bundled with SOLIDWORKS Design (including SOLIDWORKS Design Premium):

      • On the Serial Number screen, enter your SOLIDWORKS Design serial number. A SOLIDWORKS Design serial number/license is required for all SOLIDWORKS Simulation products.

IMPORTANT: If installing SOLIDWORKS Simulation as part of SOLIDWORKS Design Premium or your SOLIDWORKS Simulation license is bundled with your SOLIDWORKS Design serial number, then you will NOT enter a serial number for any SOLIDWORKS Simulation products. Only enter the SOLIDWORKS Design serial number.

For SOLIDWORKS Simulation products with a Simulation specific serial number:

      • If you have been issued a SOLIDWORKS Simulation specific serial number, enter it in the applicable SOLIDWORKS Simulation product field.

Click Next to continue.

Step 3: Select SOLIDWORKS Simulation to install

On the Product Selection screen, scroll down and checkmark SOLIDWORKS Simulation then click Next to continue.

If you do not see SOLIDWORKS Simulation, then the entered serial numbers do not include Simulation. Contact MLC CAD Systems technical support for guidance.

Step 4: Install or Modify

On the Summary screen under Products to Add, verify SOLIDWORKS Simulation is listed then click the Install or Modify option (the option displayed depends on if you are installing the first time or modifying an existing install).

Once complete, click Finish.

Step 5: Activate SOLIDWORKS Simulation

NOTE: This activation process is for standalone licenses installed directly on a client. Network licenses are activated when the serial number is added to the SolidNetWork License manager (SNL).

Launch SOLIDWORKS and then select Help > License > Activate and follow the activation prompts.

Viewing selection path in menu navigation to Licenses > Activate

Step 6: Turn On the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-in

Select Tools > Add-ins and then activate the left (Current Session) and right (Start Up) checkboxes. Click OK to close the dialog.
