Generating a Computer Target ID for Abaqus Licensing

Overview

This document outlines the procedure for generating a Target ID required for software licensing (e.g., Dassault Systèmes products).

This method is specifically for users not utilizing Managed DSLS. While Managed DSLS is generally simpler, it requires an internet connection. If your workstation has internet restrictions or requires an offline license setup, you must manually generate and provide the Target ID using the steps below.

Prerequisites

    • Access to the target workstation.

Instructions

1. Prepare the Utility

  1. Download and Extract the attached zipped folder named “DSLicTarget125“.
  2. Navigate into the extracted folder path:
    <Folder location>\DSLicTarget125\Windows 64-bit
  3. Locate the executable file named “DSLicTarget.exe”.

2. Launch Command Prompt

  1. Click the Windows Start button or Search Bar.
  2. Type “cmd”.
  3. Select Command Prompt from the results to launch it.

3. Build the Command

  1. Click and drag “DSLicTarget.exe” from File Explorer and drop it directly into the Command Prompt window.
    • This will automatically populate the full file path into the command line.
  2. Click into the Command Prompt window to ensure it is active.
  3. Press the Spacebar once.
  4. Type -t after the space.

Your final command line should look similar to this:

“C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\DSLicTarget125\Windows 64-bit\DSLicTarget.exe” -t

  3. Copy or write down the Computer ID string exactly as it appears.
  4. Provide this to the requestor.
