How to Change a PDM User Password

Keeping your passwords up to date is an important part of maintaining security in your SOLIDWORKS PDM vault. Passwords can be changed either by a PDM Administrator or by the user themselves (if permissions allow) using the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration Tool.

Before You Begin

      • The logged in user must have access to the SOLIDWORKS Administration Tool.
      • The vault must use SOLIDWORKS PDM login type (not Windows or LDAP authentication).
        • If the vault uses Windows or LDAP login types, password changes must be handled by your IT team.
      • The permission for a PDM user to change their own login password when the vault is using PDM login type cannot be turned off or changed even by the admin user. Uses can change the PDM passwords at any time.

Troubleshooting

      • If a user cannot access the Administration Tool or forgot their PDM password, a PDM administrator must reset it.
      • If your environment uses Windows Authentication or LDAP logins, password changes are not managed in PDM. Connect with your IT group for assistance.
      • Ensure users have correct PDM user permissions if they need to manage their own passwords.
