SOLIDWORKS Installation Log Files

SOLIDWORKS Installation Log Files

MLC CAD Systems technical support will often request the SOLIDWORKS installation log files from customers who are experiencing unexpected behavior with their SOLIDWORKS installation. These log files can help our technical experts determine corrective actions required to resolve an unexpected behavior and for an installation to proceed successfully.

SOLIDWORKS Installation Log Files

The installation manager can automatically collect the log files and save them as IM_logs.zip, which can then be sent to MLC CAD Systems for review.

To collect the log files automatically, from within the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, right-click the gray title bar at the top and the choose ‘Gather installation logs…’ to save the .zip file to a location of your choice for access to send to MLC CAD Systems.

The log files can also be gathered manually from the following location of the logged in Windows user running the installation.

%AppData%\SOLIDWORKS\Installation Logs

The installation logs are then organized in folders by version.

There are also options for setting the Installation Logging Levels. You can specify the logging level as High, Medium, or Low (Fastest, Default). Higher levels collect more data for troubleshooting but can slow down the installation. Low (Fastest) is the default and provides the best performance and stability. The option Create Windows Installer Logs stores logs in the same folder as other installation logs.

We recommend leaving the logging level at Low (Fastest) unless requested to change the setting by MLC CAD Systems technical support.
