How to Split and Merge a SOLIDWORKS BOM Table

SOLIDWORKS users creating large assembly drawings often find the Bill or Material (BOM) table too long for a single drawing sheet. Drafters may even have a need to display part of a BOM table on one sheet and another part of the table on additional sheets. SOLIDWORKS makes this easy using the Split and Merge options.

Splitting a BOM Table

Tables can be split vertically or horizontally at any row or column.

  1. Right-click a BOM table cell where the split should occur and the select Split from the menu.
  2. Choose one of the Split options (these options may differ depending on which cell is chosen).
    • Horizontal Auto Split
    • Horizontally Above
    • Horizontally Below
    • Vertically Left
    • Vertically Right

  1. The tables can now be repositioned on the drawing sheet, dragged to snap together, or even moved to a completely different sheet all together (drag and drop the table or Ctrl+c to copy, Ctrl+v to paste on another sheet).

Note, although the BOM tables are split, they are still controlled by a single properties manager.
