Markforged Metal X

An accessible end-to-end metal 3D printing solution designed to yield functional metal parts.

Introducing The Metal X – A Breakthrough In Metal 3D Printing
A breakthrough in Metal

Additive Manufacturing

Based on Markforged’s 4th generation composite 3D printing technology, the Metal X is a brand new kind of 3D printer. By printing metal powder bound in a plastic matrix, Markforged has eliminated the safety risks associated with traditional metal 3D printing while enabling new features like closed-cell infill for reduced part weight and cost.

Markforged Metal X Design Your Part

DESIGN

Design your CAD your part, upload the STL file, and select from a wide range of metals. The Eiger software does the rest making printing the right part easy.

Print

Metal powder bound in plastic is printed a layer at a time into the shape of your part. Parts are scaled up to compensate for shrinkage during the sintering process.

Markforged Metal X Sinter

Sinter

Your printed parts go through a washing stage to remove some of the binder. They are then sintered in a furnace and the metal powder fuses into solid metal.

Markforged Metal X Final Part Results

Part

Now that they are comprised only of pure metal, your final parts are ready for their end use. They can be processed and treated just like any other metal parts.

Materials

A2 Tool Steel – Available Now

General purpose tool steel for cold-working applications.

A2 tool steel is a highly versatile, air-hardening tool steel that is characterized by toughness and excellent dimensional stability in heat treatment.

It’s common applications include punches, dies, and form tooling.

D2 Tool Steel – Available Now

Impressive Hardness & Abrasion Resistance

D2 is a high carbon, high chromium, air-hardening tool steel. It was formulated to combine excellent abrasion resistance and air-hardening characteristics and has become the tool and die standard against which other tool steels are measured.

D2 tool steel is commonly used for long run tooling applications, where wear resistance is important, such as blanking or forming dies and thread rolling dies.

H13 Tool Steel – Available Now

Optimized for high temperature and wear

H-13 is a chromium, molybdenum, vanadium hot work tool steel which is characterized by high hardenability and excellent toughness. H-13 offers an excellent combination of shock and abrasion resistance, is capable of withstanding rapid cooling and resists premature heat checking.

Common applications include injection molds, dies and punches, forming tooling, and wear resistant inserts.

17-4PH Stainless Steel – Available Now

3D print metal more affordably than ever before

17-4PH Stainless Steel offers a valuable combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance and toughness in both base metals and welds gives designers opportunities to add reliability to their products while simplifying fabrication and often reducing costs.

Common applications include complex geometries, replacement parts, and corrosion resistant parts.

316L Stainless Steel – Coming Soon

Marine Grade Stainless Steel

316L is an austenitic stainless steels that contain molybdenum, which increases the resistance to many chemical corrodents and marine environments. 316L is an extra low carbon version of 316 stainless steel. These materials are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevices than conventional austenitic stainless steels.

Common applications include oil and petroleum refining equipment, aerospace structures and food processing equipment.

Titanium Ti-6Al-4V – Coming Soon

Ideal for light-weight applications

Bearing the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal, Titanium 6-4 is ideal for lightweight applications and has both high tensile strength and fatigue resistance. It is widely used in aerospace applications such as airframe components and turbine blades.

Inconel 625 Available Now

Strong & Heat Resistant

Inconel’s strength combined with its impressive heat resistance makes it ideal for heat and pressure shielding applications. This Nickel-based super-alloy is commonly used in jet engines and medical applications, and is very hard to machine. It is also very chemically resistant.

Copper – Available Now!

Excellent Thermal & Electrical Conductivity

Known for its high thermal and electrical conductivity, ductility, and machinability, copper is widely used in heat exchanges and electrical and construction applications.
