How to Remove the Toolbox Flag in Parts and Assemblies

How to Remove the Toolbox Flag in Parts and Assemblies

In the world of CAD design, utilizing tools like SOLIDWORKS Toolbox can greatly enhance productivity by providing easy access to a library of standardized parts. However, there are certain considerations that need to be taken into account to ensure seamless functionality when working with toolbox components.  When toolbox parts need to be removed from the toolbox and turned into normal parts, this video shows the entire process.

The SLDSetDocProp utility within SOLIDWORKS allows you to view and change the internal flag in parts that make them toolbox, but that is only one place existing toolbox parts need to have this option changed.  Assemblies that have toolbox components in them retain that same flag and the memory that a component came from the toolbox.   This is to ensure that missing parts can be quickly recreated from any local toolbox installation.

The full process to remove the toolbox flag from both the part file and any assembly that uses them:

  1. Use the sldsetdocprop utility (“C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp 2024\SOLIDWORKS\Toolbox\data utilities\sldsetdocprop.exe”) to remove the toolbox flag from individual parts that have been saved outside of the toolbox folder.
  2. Disable the option to “Make this folder the default search location” inside SOLIDWORKS Options > Hole Wizard/Toolbox.
  3. Open the assembly and rebuild it, making sure the files come in from the correct locations and are no longer recognized as toolbox parts with toolbox icons in the feature tree.

Maximize the efficiency of SOLIDWORKS Toolbox by quickly utilizing it to create standard components quickly, but also to control the behavior for non-standard or special components.
