Formlabs Form SLA Printers

Combining industrial quality and affordability with the strength you need for tooling and functional parts – all while fitting on your desktop.

Overview of Formlabs SLA Printers

MLC CAD offers the full Formlabs Form 4 SLA printer family: four systems built on the same high-speed resin platform, separated by build size and application.

Choosing between the printers comes down to two decisions:

  • Desktop or large format? Form 4 and Form 4B fit on a workbench. Form 4L and Form 4BL scale up to production-grade build volumes.
  • Standard or biocompatible? Form 4 and Form 4L handle general engineering and manufacturing. Form 4B and Form 4BL are purpose-built for biocompatible and regulated applications.

Form 4 and Form 4L: General-Purpose SLA Printing

The Form 4 and Form 4L are Formlabs‘ standard SLA systems, designed for engineers, product developers, and manufacturing teams who need fast, accurate resin parts without biocompatibility requirements.

Form 4: Desktop SLA for Prototyping and Production

The Form 4 is the workhorse desktop option. It delivers professional-grade part quality at speeds up to 100 mm/hour, with a build volume of 20.0 × 12.5 × 21.0 cm. It’s well-suited for:

  • Functional prototypes and concept models
  • Small production runs and end-use parts
  • Teams that need reliable SLA output in a compact footprint

Form 4L: Large-Format SLA for Higher Throughput

The Form 4L scales the Form 4 platform to a 35.3 × 19.6 × 35.0 cm build volume, which is 4.6x larger than the Form 4. Full builds typically finish in under six hours. It’s the right choice for:

  • Larger parts, assemblies, and fixtures that won’t fit on a desktop system
  • Higher-throughput workflows where batch output matters
  • Manufacturing and tooling applications that demand consistent large-scale results

Form 4B and Form 4BL: SLA for Biocompatible and Regulated Applications

The Form 4B and Form 4BL are built for medical, dental, and other regulated workflows where material validation and biocompatibility matter as much as print quality.

Form 4B: Desktop Biocompatible SLA

The Form 4B matches the Form 4’s desktop build volume but is configured for biocompatible resin workflows. It supports validated BioMed materials and is designed for teams producing:

  • Dental appliances, surgical guides, and medical device components
  • Regulated parts that require traceable, validated material options
  • High-throughput clinical or lab environments at desktop scale

Form 4BL: Large-Format Biocompatible SLA

The Form 4BL brings large-format output to biocompatible workflows. It offers a 4.6x larger build volume than the Form 4B with support for seven biocompatible BioMed resins. It’s best suited for:

  • High-volume dental labs and medical production environments
  • Anatomical models, prosthetics, and larger regulated components
  • Organizations scaling biocompatible output without sacrificing material compliance
