Wash-1 Common Maintenance & Troubleshooting - Markforged Metal X 3D Printer Getting Started
Watch this video to learn how to effectively maintain and troubleshoot the Metal X Wash-1 system.
Understanding the Solvent System
The solvent system plays a vital role in the overall functionality of the Metal X platform. It works by absorbing wax from the left side chamber, which then heats up and drips into the right-hand side with the help of a boiler. The wax is left behind on the right-hand side while the solvent evaporates and condenses back into the left-hand chamber. It is essential to maintain the solvent system to ensure smooth operation.
Maintaining Solvent Levels
Over time, a certain amount of solvent may escape from the system, requiring regular top-ups. Typically, it is recommended to check and refill the solvent every two to three weeks. To gauge the solvent level, look for the max fill tab on the left-hand side of the right chamber. Simply fill the solvent up to that tab by using the provided drum wrench and siphon.
HTC Over Limit Alarm
Occasionally, you may encounter an HTC Over Limit Alarm, which can indicate two possible issues. Firstly, it may suggest that the solvent level is low, affecting the boiler’s readings. Secondly, the alarm may be triggered by wax that has evaporated, causing the boiler to heat at a different rate than expected. In such cases, it is important to address the situation promptly according to the HTC Over Limit Alarm video.
Fully Flushing the System
When the solvent becomes heavily saturated with wax or if the HTC Over Limit Alarm persists frequently, a full system flush becomes necessary. Refer to the Markforged support article for detailed instructions on how to perform this procedure. By flushing the system of both solvent and wax and refilling it with fresh solvent, you can ensure optimal performance.
Choosing the Right Solvent
When it comes to selecting a solvent, there are various manufacturers to choose from. Look for a provider with a local presence, ideally one that offers a solvent reclaiming system, allowing you to return used solvent and receive a discount on a new one. This environmentally-friendly approach not only benefits you but also contributes to the recycling and reusing of solvents.
Conclusion
Proper maintenance and troubleshooting of the solvent system are key to ensuring the Metal X system operates smoothly and efficiently. Regular solvent top-ups, addressing the HTC Over Limit Alarm, and performing system flushes when necessary all contribute to a well-maintained machine. Additionally, choosing a reputable solvent manufacturer adds further value to your maintenance routine. By following these guidelines, you can enhance the longevity and productivity of your Metal X training system.
