Sinter Process Overview | Markforged Metal X 3D Printer Getting Started 5/8

Sinter Process Overview

See how the Sinter ovens work within the Markforged platform to finish 3D-printed metal parts. The machine is an electrically heated oven where metal parts are placed inside. The machine uses specific types of gases to create a non-reactive environment due to the reactivity of metals at high temperatures. The machine heats to a soak stage, burning out remaining wax or plastic, before reaching the sintering stage, just below melting temperature, where metal particles fill in voids left by the wax or plastic. The part eventually shrinks by 20 percent and becomes a 99.9 percent dense piece of metal. Lastly, the machine cools down to finish the process. Two models behave the same but offer two different sizes, Sinter-1 and the larger Sinter-2.
