Proper Drain Procedure - Markforged Metal X 3D Printer Wash

The Markforged Metal X system uses three machines to print metal parts. The process is similar to Metal Injection Molding processes but with an additive approach to making the bound-metal part. The Wash station contains solvent that is used to remove wax from the part after it is printed, preparing it for sintering by opening up pathways for the binder to leave as the metal powder particles merge together.

After a certain amount of time the solvent becomes ineffective due to the amount of wax that has been dissolved and it must be safely drained from the machine for new solvent to be added. An HTC Over Limit error is generally the first indication that the solvent needs to be changed. If the solvent level is not low, it is time to replace the solvent completely.

Have a plan for safety that includes personal protective equipment, and be sure to understand recycling or disposal requirements based on local rules and guidelines.

Follow the steps in this video to locate the drain pipes. There are four drains that connect to the various chambers in the Wash unit, make sure to follow the instructions fully to ensure a complete removal that does not damage the machine.
