What is Inspection?
Inspection (formerly known as Blacksmith) is an exclusive feature of Markforged and the Eiger software that controls it. Using an integrated inspection laser, Inspection (formerly known as Blacksmith) performs multiple critical functions to maximize the production capabilities of the X7 and FX20 printers.
Printer Calibration can be performed at the machine, accounting for even the slightest alignment or wear issue in the hardware to ensure maximum precision and accuracy over the entire life of the machine. Bed leveling and profiling allow for minor imperfections in the bed surface to be offset for a perfect first layer and a more reliable print.
In-Process Inspection can measure the part as it is printed, checking for problems and even compiling inspection reports of parts as they print, making the production and inspection processes a parallel operation instead of sequential. It even enables inspection of features that are difficult or impossible to inspect after the part is completed such as internal features.
Quality reports are generated from the in-process inspection so parts are ready for service in demanding applications such as aerospace or safety components.
