How to Replace the Fiber Nozzle on a Markforged Desktop Printer

Markforged printers use a plastic extrusion nozzle to deposit either White Nylon or Onyx, a composite material made of Nylon and chopped carbon fiber. After each layer is deposited, a continuous fiber reinforcement strand may be impregnated into the exposed plastic layer before proceeding to the next layer, giving the part unmatched strength in a composite part. Because of the abrasive nature of the printing process, especially when printing with Onyx, the fiber extruder nozzle requires inspection and periodic replacement. This video demonstrates the proper procedure for replacing the nozzle and describes the necessary steps to put the printer back into full operation. Updated printer software keeps an internal counter for important maintenance items so the process to reset the internal counter is also shown.
